the cakes i have seen with buttercream frosting, are close to ivory maybe a little more yellow than ivory

There are different types of butter cream: butter base which gives you a yellowish color, shortening butter cream will give you a white look (taste is not so good) A Swiss butter cream (egg whites heated) will give you a ivory but beautiful color, or a Italian butter cream (cooked also) will give you a off white look. The difference between the cooked and uncooked with be in the smoothness

If you don't use anything to color it, then yes, it will take on the color of the butter and the eggs that you used to make the buttercream -- which means it's close to an ivory color. Food coloring can be used to tint it any color you want, but a bit of raspberry syrup for pink, or melted chocolate for brown, for instance, are also nice.

I've seen butter-cream banana cake and it had yellow icing! Melt in the mouth Butter cake is some what yellow!
i don't know about butter-cream cake! U can probably find out from some internet cook or recipe website!

I think alot of the answers you have gotten got mixed up about buttercream cake and buttercream frosting. Buttercream cakes will be white as long as you leave the egg yolks out of the recipe. Naturally egg yolks will give it a soft tint of yellow. If you mean what color the cake is when you remove it from the oven, then it will be a light golden brown color.
