Ali wins by a KO early!! Maybe 6 rounds. Remember, Ali's speed plus say what you want about Ali but he could take a punch better than any fighter I know. Johnson was so undisciplined it wasn't funny. Ali would have picked him apart just like he did to Ernie Terrell.

I think that this would have been a closer fight than people realize. Johnson was a very quick and versatile fighter with great defensive ability. Ali using his quick reflexes often held his hands too low and Johnson would have been able to land some punches againt the quick moving Ali. Johnson was a master at parrying punches and counterpunching. Ali had the greatest handspeed of all time and great footwork. Johnson was no slouch and knew his way around the ring and was never at a loss for confidence much like Ali. I believe that Johnson would have given Ali one hell of a fight but Ali would win a very close decision. Great question!

I agree. This fight would have been much tougher and closer than anyone could imagine. Styles make fights and Jack Johnson had a style that would counteract Ali's long range assault. Sooner or later, Ali would have to close enough to hurt Jack and in return, would take punishment. Much like he did in the three Frazier Ali fights. I'm quite sure Ali would have won this fight, probably by a lopsided decision but he sure would have paid a price for his victory.

I agree with Bluedevil fully. Johnson had comparable skills that Ali had. I rate Ali as the best heavyweight but Johnson is not too far behind. Ali was a little faster that would be the only difference. Ali by close decision.

Are you serious...Ali would be too fast for Johnson! The styles of fighting back then were too straight up and standard with those Queensbury rules etc. The only catch would be if the fight would be scheduled to go 15 rnds or 50 like they did when Jack fought!
Ali's float like a butterfly style would be too elusive for Jack Johnson. Result......Ali by TKO in the 14th as Johnson refuses to answer bell due to a swollen face and the humilliation of constantly missing Ali for 13 rnds.

Ali fairly easily. Ali respected Johnson and in some ways patterned himself after him. But the fight would have been all Ali. The sweet science had advanced a lot by the Ali's time and Ali was a master boxer. In his early career, he was lightning fast and still pretty quick in his comeback years. If you look at those old films, Johnson was crude by comparison. Ali by KO in the middle rounds.

I'd go for Jack Johnson he definitely was the best defensive fighter of all time. I think Peter Jackson would knock Ali out or win by decision. He was the best heavyweight of all time.

i would have to say that ali would win - although if there's one heavyweight, one fighter, in all boxing history who could've beaten him, johnson(his idol) would be the one. ali could dance 15 rounds! he did this often in his prime - yes, he was that great! however, johnson was a defensive master(check out "unforgivable blackness") who would toy w/his opponents like a cat, pace himself, then wear them down over say 20+ rounds. he would give ali fits w/his defensive prowess and tricks and ali would not always be able to land clean shots, but ali would ultimately be too fast for johnson and the ol' bee would sting ol' jack repeatedly. can you imagine the banter going on inside the ring as both would be constantly talking to each other trying to get in each other's heads and off each other's games? johnson would not be able to catch ali, as ali would dance in and dance out(think ali's underrated power would also give him an edge)...at times, it would be a defensive chess match, but ali would pile up the points. remember, even jack johnson avoided some of the great black fighters of his day. i forget if it was sam langford whom jack defeated, then refused to fight again after he won the title. this one may end up not being the most action packed fight, but the electricity in the air would be awesome - ali by split, and possibly unanimous, decision! great choice in questions!~

Nice match. I'd pay to see that one. Two fighters similar styles and attitude. Jack Johnson's scarier but i think it would go to decision. I'd give Alit the edge though because I think he faced much tougher opposition in his prime than Johnson did. I'd score it 4-4-2 Ali in a ten round decision.
