Nope. The stupid people living there did. They cut down ALL the trees to make sledges and rollers for the statues. Then they didn't have any trees left to make canoes with so they could go out and catch fish. Then they starved. Dumb, huh?

No, of course not. They were carved by the children in the first grade at Easter Island Christian School in about 50 AD. These were for the first Easter head hunt. After a few years, like maybe, 1000 AD, they figured out that the heads were a little hard to hide so they started boiling chicken eggs and hiding them. About 1500 AD while hiding an egg, a child, dropped it into a bucket of paint and so began the Colorful,Painted, chicken egg, Easter, hide and hunt game. Or so someone told me.
