Moore was 5'11 , and 190 when he met Rocky Marciano.
Quarry was six feet and 197 in his prime. He KO'd Earnie Shavers, way outboxed Ron Lyle, counterpunched to beat Floyd Patterson. Tough, very quick, very good boxer with some real pop. He almost KO'd Joe Frazier. Why does this this guy go unrespected?
Archie Moore went down three times to Yvon Durelle. He had over 20 career losses. He was never that good over 190 pounds, and he was strictly a puncher. How does he beat Quarry, a bigger guy who could box and counterpunch? Quarry was , again, a very tough chin. Ali never put him down in two fights.

Good question as this fight could have went either way. Quarry had the misfortune of fighting in a era of great heavyweights. He beat Floyd Patterson, lost a controverisl decision to Jimmy Ellis, beat Thad Spencer, Mac Foster, knocked out Earnie Shavers, beat Ron Lyle and beat every British champion he ever fought. He had good boxing skills, was tough as nails and could punch. He gave Smoking Joe Frazier some fierce battles and was well known for his counterpunching ability. The truth is we will never really know how he would have fared against Moore who was probably the greatest Lgt heavyweight champ in boxing history. He was a smart fighter with a good punch and a lengendary fighter. He would have had a hard fight against Quarry in my opinion. I believe that Quarry could hit harder but that Moore was a better overall boxer although Quarry aint too shabby. In a mild upset, I;m taking Quarry by split decision in a very good fight with Moore clamoring for a rematch! Good question sir!

You make a very good point Gerry S. Archie Moore is a very good boxer but whenever he ventured up to Heavy he got beat, but to be fair the people who beat him were always above average champions, i think this would be a good fight but i think would probably agree with you that Quarry would beat Moore at Heavyweight. If Quarry hit Moore with either of the shots he hit Frazier with Moore dont get back up. I do respect Moore because of the longevity of his great career but i just think Heavyweight was a step too far for him. Also the Era that Quarry fought in was the Greatest Era of Heavyweight boxing and he held his own against some of the best ever so you are exactly right when you say he should get some respect. Moore also went in against some greats of that division but you would have to say that he didnt really do that well. If that fight was at Light Heavy (If Quarry could of ever got that low) Moore would of probably (well definitely) won.

Archie Moore became into the Lt Heavy Champ for 10 years, started in 1936 as a Middleweight and thanks to racism, did no longer get a call shot for some years. Archie fought many bouts in South u.s..between the appropriate ring technicians in boxing historic previous.greater ko's than all people in boxing historic previous, the appropriate Lt heavy king of all time.A tournament against against Jerry Quarry would be ridiculous.Quarry would be tought a boxing lesson by ability of Moore and the old Mongoose would carve him up like a turkey interior of three rounds, Archie by ability of tko.

Wasn't Archie Moore like 100 years old when he fought at heavy??

Moore was a far more efficient fighter than Quarry, much better on defense. If you take both at their primes, Moore still wins imho as Quarry would have had a hard time getting to him.

Quarry didn't go down against Ali but he should have. No one ever questions Quarry's guts. Remember, Archie was a blown up middle weight who fought way past his prime. In their prime, Quarry may have outlasted him but would have come out of the fight looking like the loser. 12 round draw

This would be a very even fight. I hate to go against Quarry in this fight but I think Moore would take the decision here. Too crafty.
