Christians have rejected Jesus's teachings. They prefer to listen to Paul's interpretation about "salvation by faith," which flies in the fact of what Jesus said. Salvation is not by faith; if so, then why did Jesus preach? Seems like he liked to hear himself talk.

Revelation supports this. All warmongers (among others) will be cast into the lake of fire. It does NOT say all warmongers, except born-agains, will be cast into the lake of fire.

I don't believe this commandment was given in the context of service towards one country, but as instruction in a proper attitude towards all men. In the days when Christians were being thrown to wild animals in the public arenas of Rome, I don't think Christ meant by this that you should assist the Romans in rounding up their victims. Loving someone doesn't mean assisting them in promoting their evil intentions. Men are hell-bent by their own evil designs, and Christ intended that as Christians, rather than damn the wicked in their wickedness, we should pray and help them in any way we can to divert them from their own self destructive ways.
When soldiers came to John the Baptist, he didn't tell them to lay down their arms, but simply "Do not take money from anyone by force, or accuse anyone falsely, and be content with your wages." (Luke 3:14)
There is "A time for war, and a time for peace" (Ecclesiastes 3:8)

The army helps people. The soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan are trying to make friends with the innocent people. This is not a war where every man in the country is your enemy. Some of the people in Afghanistan and Iraq feel liberated and freed by Americans and Brits. They even fear our leaving because they are afraid it will return to what it use to be. No greater love has any man than he lay down his life for a friend. I honestly believe our soldiers are trying to give these people a better life and so is our President. But back in America we have the old me, me, me, me generation. What about me! What about me! What about me! Yet your Christian soldiers are laying their life on the line to help these people.

Because some Christians love their country too and see that as a way to serve their country....and the ones I know in the army pray for their enemies too.

Who says they don't love them?
Matter of supporting your country and defending your life. If they were to go off on a killing spree out of hatred, that is different. But when they are called to support their country, that is honorable. And did you know that many christians in the army share the gospel while out there? They would die for someone else.....like YOU and ME. That is actually love.

Jesus only meant other Jews. Other members of the same tribe, enemies within the group, not out-groups. He had quite different opinions about how members of out-groups were to be treated.

"Greater love has no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friend." John 15:13
The Bible says, "there will be wars and rumors of war".
God hates war too, but it is sometimes necessary to maintain order in the earth and overcome those who would like to destroy good.

The first war was in heaven. Revelation 12:7-11

It maybe hard for many in this forum to believe but most GI's felt sorrow for the enemies they had to kill. And sorry for theirselves having to do it. Still, doing nothing is not always a good idea.
