It is one thing to pay for fuel and have costs justfied. Oil companies BOASTED 39 BILLION dollars in profit, they are laughing at us. It is time we as a nation made a stand. I say we start with Exxon/Mobil and buy our fuel from other suppliers. We will make Union 76, Chevron, etc. ritch but at least we can send a message and it is a start. Are you with me

In my opinion, the anger against oil companies is merely a misleading propoganda campaign begun by politicians seeking more money and power.

As you can see from the chart at this link, the various U.S. governments collect more money from the oil industry through taxes than the companies themselves keep as profit.

And speaking of profit, who owns those oil companies? Well, the fact is that the insider CEOs own less than 5% of all shares and the majority (>50%) is owned by private investors and mutual funds (like maybe the one your company set up for your retirement or your parents' retirement, etc).

Exxon posted a 10% profit out of all their sales (drug companies make a much more necessary product and charge up to 25% of the cost as profit). This means they Exxon collected about 25 cents for every gallon of $2.50 gas purchased (Actually less since they sell gasoline at discount wholesale prices). The local, state, and federal governments average 49 cents per gallon, almost twice the cost of oil industry profit. If you buy 10 gallons of gas at $25, you are donating $5 to the the governments and about $2 to the oil industry.

Ironically, many politicians have proposed new taxes on gasoline as a solution to this "outrageous" profit. Taxes only make costs go up and puts more power in the government's hands.

Yes, they've been ripping us off for years. Did you ever notice around the holidays there always appears to be a shortage any lame excuse will do. All the companies are at fault. I remember in the '70's they said there was an energy crisis. No electric so they wanted no Christmas lights hung & majority of American idiots actually fell for it & didn't hang them. Christmas has nener recovered. Gas went to a buck a gallon, people were syphing it from other cars & only odd number cars could be served on certain days even on the other & on the 7th they rested {yeah right], But it just goes to show, there was no crisis then there is none now but the same saps keep falling for it. THEY GET ALL THE MONEY, & WE GET THE SHAFT. Big business has always lied & will continue to always lie to the little guy because there isn't a damn thing we can do to stop it. WE HAVE NO ORGANIZATION. So don't come cryin to me.

absolutely. it's one thing if they're using those huge profits to seriously pioneer new types of fuel that are better for the environment and give more bang for the buck, but the fact is that they're using that money to block legislation that would be harmful to the oil companies and are continuing to build new oil rigs and pipelines. The oil companies are living in an age in the past, and want to spend their money to keep america in the past, so it doesn't realize that oil is a 19th/20th century fuel and that more "high tech" fuels exist that could power our country.

You're right. The oil companies did post 39 BILLION dollars in profit, but you forgot to mention that that amount was not for a years time, but just for the quarter!!! You're also right when you say they're laughing at us. But, tell me...How can we fight them when our own Pretender in Chief's family has a controlling interest in the oil industry?! And the VP of our country has control over awarding military contracts to companies that bank roll him on the down low?! I mean, you don't honestly believe that these two are in office fighting for us, right? They are in it for themselves and their cronies.

The oil companies are only trying to satisfy your craving for fast automobiles and long aircraft trips.

The best way to bring down the price of oil is to reduce your usage of your cars by 50%. If oil does not sell it becomes a drain on the oil companies, and they will reduce the price until it does sell.

I think it's time the "big three" who reported the billion dollar profits contributed at least a billion to bio-diesel technology/research, as well as get their tax breaks cut.

It's time to cut the oil companies out and utilize some good old fashioned ingenuity to fuel our needs and save Earth and her people. The only reason they work is because we pay them. We need to use some other resources. It's not like we don't have so many options. I say scr*w them...they scr*wed us!

Why fight the oil companies when you won't fight the owners of the Federal Reserve? Americans are basically spineless beyond being merely clueless.
