The name itself is Cree for "Swift flowing River". It is also the most commonly mispronounced province in Canada. :) A lot of people call Saskatchewan "The Gap"..not because of the store, but because it is generally flatter than other Canadian provinces. The butt of a lot of Canadian jokes, Saskatchewan IS known for its sense of humour. Not only for shows like "Corner Gas" and "Little Mosque on the Praire", but the people in general. They are amongst the best story tellers in Canada...they learn in those LONG winters! (don't get defensive...I am Manitoban so I relate!)
Like most Canadian provinces, the majority of the province resides in the southern part of the province. That doesnt mean the north doesn't have something to offer! Some of the most beautiful lakes and forests are located in the north. The south is known for the farming and one of the best veterinary schools in North America.
Most of the western world's supply of uranium comes from Sasksatchewan as well. Alberta likes to boast about its oil and gas...but Saskatchewan isnt far behind. :)
One of the best Canadians in history lived in Saskatchewan, Tommy Douglas. Not only was he the father of medicare, but he can take credit for Kiefer Sutherland! Saskatchewan also has the most NHL players per capita than any other place, and the most golf courses per capita.
Thats about all I remember of the "Land of the Living Skies" from when I did my project years ago.

Somebody told me it's not completely flat, actually has cliffs or something. Capital is Regina, other cities are Saskatoon, Moose Jaw, Swift Current. I think maybe John Diefenbaker was from there. Lots of wheat. I think I have second or third cousins there, on my maternal grandfather's side. I have been there, it was pouring. It gets cold enough some winters that the temperature sounds warmer in Fahrenheit. Everybody curls.
Edit: Potash, world's major supplier of potash.

A Canadian Proving between Alberta and Mantioba. The capital, Regina has the lowest cost of living of any major city in Canada. It is also really really really flat.
