My minpin puppy has serious separation anxiety, I don't know what to do!! The second we leave, she's scratching on the door, whining & barking & howling so that the whole block hears. My landlord (I Live in a 2 family house) complains to us everyday. last night, we left for 2 hours to go out for dinner, & when we come home, our landlord iswaiting for us by our door to tell us that the dog has been barking all night & they can't take it anymore. We leave her heating pads under her pillow, she has access to the whole house except for the 3 bedrooms because she's pee pad trained, we leave her her favorite treats around the house, as well as 3 of her favorite kind of rawhide bones. We leave her dry food mixed in with canned food as well as some apple slices, & fresh water. We also leave her a shirt I sleep in at night so she has my scent. The radio & TV is also on.We don't know what to do! We've had her for a month already & she's been like this since day 1. Please help! Anything will help

For one you need to see about kennel\crate train her to keep from tearing up your home. She may also cry in there too, and there are a few things to help with this. It souds like you have done a lot. There is some stuff (a herbal and nutritional supplement) they sell at pet stores that have calming herbs and vitamins to help with the issues your dog is dealing with. I use the brand called Kalm and Gentle for all ages and breeds of Dogs. Its a chewable Liver Flavored tab. I checked out a lot of calming supplements once I heard about them, and this brand only takes 30 min. to kick in where as others said they take an hour. Sometimes we don't have that long to wait when my dog starts the whining and barking thing during thunderstorms at night, and we start out headaches and screaming for sleep. I also leave the raido on when I leave and a little fan on very low all the time when its warmer weather as this can help keep the AC moving where the dog sleeps, and the constant noise helps puts dogs to sleep. On the package it tells you the dosage to give your dog. For your min. pin. its only going to take about a 1/2 a tablet to stress free relaxation! Otherwise your looking at spending hundreds of dollars at the vet for some other calimng therapys. Get with your landloard after you find something, show it to them too, so they can be willing to work with you, and see that you are trying something. Its going to take some time for the meds to kick in, so they will have to be patient with you. I sent you a link with a pic and some info. on it so you know what to look for at the pet store. There are other methods to try including a liquid that you can put in the drinking water or on the food, but if your dog doesn't drink much or happen to be eating, then it won't help. Don't Give Up. Keep Trying... Hope this works out for you! :)

I strongly recommend that you have a trainer come to your home to do an evaluation. You don't mention how old the pup is, but I'm guessing from the info you have she's about 3 months old. It is highly unusual for a pup this young to have separation anxiety. Her behavior may be due to something else. A trainer can see the environment and the pup and give you some ideas. Ask your vet for a referral or go to www.apdt.com to find someone near you.

My foxhound mix is 13 and even though he was 9 years old before I adopted him, he developed such a strong and immediate bond with me that I was just stunned at the separation anxiety he showed even if we were apart for a very short time. The thing that has really helped him was getting another dog. I rescued a young female Jack Russell mix and having her to play with and just for company has done him wonders.
