I would like to do some volunteer work in the community. I always have my 21 month old daughter with me.I've thought about visiting nursing homes but I'm afraid of getting her sick. Can anybody suggest other things I can do with her?

A beach cleanup usually turns out successful with the help of parents and children of all ages.

Maybe you can try volunteermatch.com. You might be able to do a story or craft time at the library. Some schools allow parents to do volunteer work at the school with your child or you can take some work home such as cutting and putting together crafts for the teachers.

You can enroll the child in a "co-op" preschool/day care. That is where parents volunteer a day or two to help out for a "discount" on the childcare/preschool rate.
