Yes, it is a grave sin for a couple- any couple- to conceive a child through invitro.

Why?

Because it takes God out of the equation and makes a child an object to be acquired rather than a gift from God.

What they don't tell you about invitro:
1. More than one egg is harvested and fertilized. This is becuase gettin gthe eggs is expensive and painful. The fertilized embryos NOT implanted in the mother are frozen for future attempts at pregnancy.
2. More than one embryo (BABY) is implanted in the mother. For unknown reasons, these babies are also more likely to split into twins. This means MORE babies in the womb- more babies means a higher risk during the pregnancy for both Mom and the babies. Doctors will push for "selective reduction"- double speak for choosing to abort some of the babies.
3. Remember those unused embryos? They are living human beings- and they are put on ice. If the parents run out of money to keep them frozen, they are allowed to die. If the parents decide not to have more children, these babies are allowed to die.

So- this couple wanted SOOOOOO badly to have a baby of 'their own' that they couldn't adopt and love a child who desparately needed a home....and then they allow their genetic children to DIE??? Where is the love in THAT?? They basically get what they want, and abort the rest of the children- but no one ever calls it that, do they? No one ever says,' they are guilty of child abuse because they allowed their children to die." Nope. It's all sugar coated, and the children who weren't loved enough will never feel the loving embrace of their parents.

Catholics and many other Christians believe that a soul is placed in a human at the point of conception. This is why the Church celebrates on March 25 the feast of the Annunciation when Mary said "Yes!" to God and Jesus was conceived. Life is sacred and a gift from God.

In most in vitro fertilizations, more than one egg is fertilized. Several embryos are then placed into the mother's womb. The remaining embryos are either destroyed or frozen. Destroying human embryos is abortion and freezing them with an unknown future hope of ever being born is not respecting the dignity of human life.

Later if and when the embryos begin to grow in the mother, all but one or two are usually aborted, again killing sacred human life.

With love in Christ.

From what I've read about this issue, the problem is with the way in vitro works--dozens of eggs are fertilized, but only a few are implanted. The rest of the fertilized eggs are often destroyed. Because of the church's stance on life beginning at fertilization, many Catholics feel as though in vitro is not acceptable.

Yes it is a grave sin to kill human beings at any stage of their development. In vitro fertilization always involves the intentional destruction of embryonic human beings. It is essentially the same as abortion.

Here's the system: If it helps people control their own destiny, the Catholic Church is against it.

If you're fertile, they oppose condoms. You MUST get pregnant. If you have fertility problems, they oppose in vitro fertilization. Go figure.
