I have a brother three years younger than me. Whatever I do he has to be better than me. He never lets me take credit for anything, because he always does one better. He also does nerdy things like walk around reciting pi to the hundredth decimal. For everyone out there who has a younger brother, how do you combat it?

they do it because they want to be like you. I know that sounds crazy but its the truth. Give them lots of love and they eventually will back off. Everytime he does something annoying go give him a big hug. To a younger brother that is worse than getting in a fight. You will eventually convince him that you love him as well as teach him not to be so annoying. Trust me been there done that.

Well , its up to you to quit feeling like you need to compete with him. Yes I have 2 younger brothers an almost impossible task I know. Don't know what your current ages are , but grin and bare it ...hopefuly your adult relationship with eachother will be something totaly different ..Worked that way for me anyway..Oh yeah , if the competition ever turns toward women watch out..serious family damage is on the way.

It sounds like he might be trying to impress. Usually the best way to handle that is to simply acknowledge his abilities with a compliment and then you don't look so annoyed with him and if he is just trying to get a rise out of you, he'll find your reaction (your compliment) to be surprising and might not try to impress you or get a rise out of you as much. Just play along with him. I think he just wants you to acknowledge his smarts and talents and that doesn't make you look any less smart or able than him, just makes you more mature.

i usually just ignore him. but that doesn't always work. just do your best in every thing you do and one day he might give up. he's always going to try to do better than you to get more attention. but the truth is that it is the oldest sibling that doesn't get alot of attention.trust me.....i'm in the same situation! it's a nightmare!!! but sooner or later he will get tired an dstop or you,(being the oldest)...will get to move out sooner and start your own life. i myself cannot wait for that day to come!!!!!
xxxGOOD LUCKxxx
