As long as there are two or more people with their own desires we will always have this problem. Even Paul had it in the early church and see how he handled it..
1 Cor. 3:3
for you are still controlled by your sinful nature. You are jealous of one another and quarrel with each other. Doesn’t that prove you are controlled by your sinful nature? Aren’t you living like people of the world? 4 When one of you says, “I am a follower of Paul,” and another says, “I follow Apollos,” aren’t you acting just like people of the world?
5 After all, who is Apollos? Who is Paul? We are only God’s servants through whom you believed the Good News. Each of us did the work the Lord gave us. 6 I planted the seed in your hearts, and Apollos watered it, but it was God who made it grow. 7 It’s not important who does the planting, or who does the watering. What’s important is that God makes the seed grow. 8 The one who plants and the one who waters work together with the same purpose. And both will be rewarded for their own hard work. 9 For we are both God’s workers. And you are God’s field. You are God’s building.

There are so many different religions because people would rather follow their own "truths" than follow God's word of truth.

IMHO, the reason for multiple religions is based in culture. Communities all over the world existed without knowledge of one another, and their religions developed to help them understand and appreciate their surroundings, and to provide comfort and security when dealing with life cycle events (for example, birth, acceptance into adulthood, marriage, death).
I'm OK with the existence of multiple religions, even the polytheistic ones, since they, too, have rituals and rites to address all the stages of life. I find it interesting to learn about all of them.

there are many people who want to conform God to fit their lifestyle, so they 'change' their ideals into a new religion...
you have some who like 'this part of 1 religion' and maybe 'another part of another religion' so they combine them to make a new one
or you have some that want to remove part of what a church believes, so they start a new one...
it is forever going on...
I chose to conform to what God expects of me.. not any religion or church
