I've never had mine checked and want to know what it is. What are the ways to have it checked without a big hassle or expense?

Meijer has an OTC cholesterol testing kit but I believe it was close to $30. It is near the pharmacy counter. If you don't have a Meijer I bet the dreaded Wal*Mart would have them as well.

Before spending that kind of money ask the pharmacist about the reliability of it. That way you can find out if it's worth the cash. Often pharmacies have low cost cholesterol testing occasionally, too. Or your local Health Department may be able to help you or steer you to something like that. If you are concerned that yours may be out of whack you should (I think) get tested asap so you can get back on track!

cholesterol is checked thru a blood draw. You can go to a lab, ask them if they will do the test for you without a doctor's order. Some will, some won't. But if you are not a professional, you likely won't understand the results anyway.
Suggest you see your doctor, and get it done, so he can explain the various components that go into making up a lipid panel and thus obtaining a cholesterol.
