It's Ellen's Starlight Diner. I think it's Starlight, but not positive about that, but positive It's Ellen's. She was a Miss Subway, or something like that way back when they had that kind of competition, and there are photos of her around the restaurant. It started out as a smaller restaurant on 6th Ave, and it became so popular that it had to move to a larger place. It's not really a diner, but a sort of grand coffee shop, I don't even know how to describe it, sort of a one of a kind place. Guess, you can tell, I really like the place and have been going there for years. So sorry I don't work around the corner for it anymore.
It is located on I believe 7th Ave, or is it Broadway, sorry, but at about 54th Street. Sorry, Zagat's isn't right here. But most of the people who work there are want to be actors and so every so often they stop serving and put on a show. It is sort of a typical Coffee Shop menu, huge with all the typical foods, sandwichs, eggs, some cooked foods. I always went for the plainer foods, it's not a fancy restaurant. As far as prices, let's face it, it's Manhattan, so by NYC standards it's cheap, but don't know where you are coming from, so it may be expensive compared to most of the rest of the world for a coffee shop. I don't think they have a website, and the entertainment is just the waitpeople singing and doing a bit of dancing in a very crowded restaurant. If you come to NY, give it a go, and have fun. I will warn you, it is crowded at lunch time, so plan on waiting a bit.

You are looking for Ellen's Stardust Diner located at Broadway and 51st Street. The food is very mediocore and overpriced - two hot dogs = $10; grilled cheese = $7; meatloaf = $13; ice cream sodas and shakes = $6. But, you don't go there for the food - you go there because it's fun. If you are with good company, you won't notice the food - you'll be having too good a time. Really, go there - it won't break the bank and you'll have a lot of fun. The staff is so friendly and so talented.
