I assume that you have seen a professional if you are being told that you have a personality disorder. I am no expert on the subtleties but as I understand it mental illness is over a feature of personality disorder. If you are not receiving treatment perhaps you should go back to your GP and talk to him or her again. Before you do, get in touch with your local MIND group. They may have an advocacy service which can help you or be able to offer other assistance depending on your needs.
You may find the article below of some use.

personality disorder IS a mental illness. You HAVE been diagnosed. However, if you are sure that the diagnosis is wrong, or if you feel you have symptoms which your psychiatrist is not addressing (remember not everything needs medication) you are well within your rights to ask to see a different doctor.
It might help to make a list of the things you thik your doctor needs to know, the things that you want to sort out. Write it down, and take it with you to your next appointment. That way, you can go through the list and ask for specific reassurance / action on each point. At least that was you can get the dr to answer specific questions and find out why certain things are not being treated, if they are not.

A personality disorder is a form of mental illness. If you are not happy with the diagnosis you can ask to be referred for a second opinion.

Its not nice being told your mental health problems are due to a personallity disorder.I have a friend that was diagnosed with exactly this after years of being in the system but she persevered and asked for a change of consultant and this has helped and is now treated for bi-polar and she is so much better after getting the right meds & support!.Ive had problems myself and agree it can feel that your banging your head against a brick wall trying to be heard. All i can suggest is to maybe see your cpn & explain situation.Your welcome to mail me about this.

Why dont you get in touch with one of the brilliant mental health charities who can advice you ? There is www.rethink.org or www.mind.org - both do a sterling job and are there to help and advice people in the same boat as yourself. Good luck
