I just bought a pomaranian puppy and have a 3 year old chiuahaha. I have never locked up my chihaha but would like to lock them both up in the kitchen throughout the day with eachother. This way there are no accidents (the chihaha is yet to be fully potty trained) and so they can get to know eachother. Is this ok? Also, is it bad to change things for the chihaha becuase he has never been locked up before? Will he think he is being punished and turn mean?

I think you would be ok. My chinese crested (he's 2) is also not house broken but uses puppy pads. I crate him during the day. I'd recommend doing it a little at a time, and maybe even while you are home. Just make sure the dogs get along ok first- the puppy may be a little agressive/playfull and hurt your chihuey. you don't want that!

When I fist strated crating my boy, I did it for 30mins while home, then scaled up to short trips and now all day. Just give him a treat (like a kong etc) so he knows its ok.

Hoep it works! congrats on the new puppy, that rocks!

It shouldn't be a problem. If there is any disagreement between the two dogs it is just because they are trying to establish pack order. Let it be and they will eventually learn their place. Your first dog will be fine with being enclosed in the kitchen as long as you continue to praise him and offer treats before you leave. He will start to see you leaving as a more positive thing.

dogs are like babies. They are like humans. They feel. They understand. They could relate. so talk to him. HEART TO HEART. pick him up against your chest, making him feel your heartbeat (this way he'll know that you are being sincere). Then tell him to his face what you are trying to accomplish by doing this.Look into his eyes and make him feel that everythings gonna be alright after this...and then gently put him down. Now, from time to time, check on him, pet him and give him a verbal recognition that he is doing great!

--believe me, he'll be fine!

(just dont make him sense that you yourself is nervous about the outcome of this whole scenario..Because believe me..he can feel exactly the way you do!) so if you are un-Easy, then he'll never get relaxed aswell, and now that---that could make him develop negative attitudes.

so RELAX and trust each other that both of you can get pas this stage in a BREEZE!

--cheers!

i dont think he will turn mean usually when you are putting a dog in a time out you dont giveit food, lay a beed down for them and some food and there play toys and it wont feel like a bad thing they may grow to like it. Just make sure you check on them everyo once in awhile but they should be fine
