Banning smoking in bars and public places is becoming wide spread, but there is a choice whether you go into a smoking establishment or not. A child has no choice as to whether or not to be in their home when their parents or others are smoking, should we not be trying to make laws to outlaw this? In my opinion it is not a privacey issue, but a child welfare issue.

Well, mainly because there is no way it could be enforced. Smoking pot at home is illegal and look at how many people do that.

I grew up in a home where both parents smoke, I have no problems from it. I wouldn't smoke around a little kid (I don't smoke in my house period, it stinks and is hard to clean), but second hand smoke is no worse than the car fumes you are exposed to everyday when you set foot out the door. Should we ban cars? Carcinogens are produced when meat is grilled, should we ban grilling? I could go on.

I have no problem with no smoking in a restaurant, I don't want to smell it while I am eating, though I think it should be up to the owner of the restaurant, not the government. If I own a business I should be able to smoke in my own business! After all if it is a business that allows smoking, you don't have to come in. It used to amaze me when I worked at a cigar shop the number of people that would come in and then complain about the smoke. If you don't want to smell cigar smoke, don't come into a cigar shop!

Here you have to be 20 feet from the door, that means at my local bar, I would have to stand in the middle of the street to smoke, luckily our local law enforcement doesn't enforce it. I don't mind going outside, but I should be able to smoke on the patio!

While I do think people should refrain from smoking around kids, the government already has put too many regulations on us, don't add any more.

I also am in favor of youth becoming a certain age before making such a huge commitment which so often is made at 12 years old, followed up by a life of debauchery, and completely leaving off all biblical teachings. If you had campaigns as you say, it would weed out all the freeloaders and quasi Christians. Excellent, I think. It should only be followed by those who 'can count the cost'. On the other hand, children usually DO know what they want to believe, and they usually DO know if they aren't interested at a young age. Their wishes should be respected, just as we should all respect one another. Unfortunately, the term 'harm others' is too vague, and could easily be misinterpreted to hurt Christians who were in fact doing the right thing. We believe there is a force, called satan, and we've seen lots of evidence for his powers. It is my belief that satan would really try to eliminate all strong believers leaving a totally godless society. Which you might think was better, and according to the bible, you'd be wrong about that.

I agree. There are some new laws that are being passed moving toward this direction, but not enough IMO. It is definitely a child welfare issue, the govt isn't stopping people from smoking, just asking that they wait until they are out of the car, or step outside of their home to smoke if they are with their underage children.

Nosies like you really irritate me. What people do in their own homes is NONE of anyone's business.
Tens of thousands of parents smoked all thru the 50's 60's and 70's, and while yes some children had respiratory problems as a result, a vast majority of us grew up hale and hearty.
So take your nose out of other people's homes. It's folks like you in our government that would turn us all into nodding automatons.

Oh please. Not another ban " for the children". People like you will have the govt installing surveillance cameras in private homes just to make sure we are living government sanctioned safe and healthy lives. Don't you see where all the bans are eventually leading? Why are you so willing to let the government take care of you in the name of the children? People who actually think like you are dangerous.

I think it's a wonderful idea! My ex-wife smokes in her home with my daughter in the house. When my daughter visits me, everything she has smells like smoke. I hate it, but there's not much I can do about it.
Unfortunately, even if a law is passed, it will be hard to enforce it.

SMOKING is the MOST disgusting ABUSE any child can endure! Nobody under 18 should be subjected to ANY kind of smoke, especially second-hand cigarette smoke.

I would hope one day it will become a law that this would become child abuse. I agree with all those who are for banning smoking!!!

While we are at it, why not ban all R rated videos from houses with children? What about foul language in the house? You also shouldn't be allowed to have unhealthy foods in a house with children. The march toward fascism continues....

quite true but you must realize the the government would lose a lot of tax dollars if they ban it in too many places that could raise income tax considerably. Are you ready for that?
