If you started taking antibiotics, you must finish them! Do not stop! If you got a prescription abut did not start taking them, then don't. For future reference, antibiotics are only for bacterial infections (like Strep), not colds. (If you stop antibiotics too soon, any surviving bacteria in your body could contribute to creating "superbugs") Also, do not throw unused antibiotics away or down the drain. Ask your pharmacist or doctor what to do with unused antibiotics.
Now the good news. If you've already had it a week, then your cold is probably almost over, anyway. Just rest and take plenty of liquids (especially chicken soup and green tea with honey).
For next time, at the first tickle, sniffle or hint of a cold take:
500 mg Echinacea
600 mg Garlic
750 mg Vitamin C
You must start herbal remedies at the first sign for them to work best.

Colds normally go away on their own in about a week or so. If you have the flu, maybe a little longer. But that doesn't mean you have to suffer through it. The medications you are taking simply suppress the symptoms but do not actually cure you. What you really need to do is rest a lot, get lots of chicken soup, get plenty of vitamin C through pills or juice or both, and if possible, take an antioxidant supplement or get lots of foods containing antioxidants, such as berries. I am assuming your cold is not too bad, in which case you might benefit from taking a hot bath and immediately getting under covers so you can sweat and let out all that 'cold' air that's gotten into your body.

Sorry, there is no cure for the common cold, however, staying rested, drinking plenty of fluids (water, unsweetened orange juice) and eating well will all help. Over the counter cold medications will only relieve the symptoms not cure the problem and may in fact prolong the cold (my opinion) as relieved symptoms may result in "feeling too good" and over exterting yourself and not allowing your body to fight the cold naturally. Echinacea also helps boost the immune system may help (always follow the directions). I am not a doctor, but I do have the initials D.R. ! Hope you get well soon and happy birthday!

A cold is caused by a virus. Antibiotics are for bacteria. The best thing is rest, chicken soup, and Vitamin C. A cold has to "burn" itself out. Get some Echinassea and zinc to relieve the symptoms.

hi. you need to just let it run it's course on its own. and the best way to speed this up is through liquids. drink as much gatorade, juices and water and possible and your body will be flushed out in a day or two. also, try "airborne" which can be bought at any drugstore or supermarket. good luck!

Resting, a balanced nutritional diet and plenty of water is all you can do. Your body will take the path required to heal. You can't hurry it along.
