File your taxes in Tennessee, but you do not have to file a state return unless you have outside interest income. You will need to file a Part Year California return to satisfy their requirements.
Congratulations on moving to one of the few states that does not impose a state income tax! I hope you like it here. It is growing on me and the recent cold spell makes me want to move back out west.

Assuming Tenn. has a state income tax, you would file state income tax returns in both states. For California, you would use form 540-NR, which is used for non residents with California source income and for part year residents. Each state will take into consideration your taxes in the other state in calculating how much you owe - but the calculations can be complicated.

You will have to file taxes in both states. For your federal return, the two W-2s combined will be sufficient. As for NC, you must report ALL income, but check your tax laws, you may be able to get by with only the income earned while a state resident. This will save you money.

you would need to file a CA form 540NR (for non-residents) reporting your CA income only. TN does not tax wages. both W-2s would be reported on your federal 1040.
