In what order is a GI series done on the same patient?

When using Barium, is the lower GI enema done before the upper GI test or is the upper done first. What is the rationale behind this order?

You start from the bottom and work up...barium enema before upper GI. The barium from the upper would be in the large bowel if you started with that first, and you need to start with a "clean slate."
