My mom told me she has not filed her Individual tax return (form 1040) for 2003, 2004 or 2005. I looked at her information and each year reflects a refund. Should she file and send each one separately or should she file them in one package? Also, will she get the refunds even though it's been so long?

File them asap. Each year needs to be a separate return. You can download the forms at irs.gov - be sure to use the form and instructions for the right years, since the numbers change a little each year.

She can still get her 2003 refund as long as she files by April 15 of this year, after that it's lost. She has awhile yet on the other two. They could all be sent in the same envelope, but each year needs to have its own forms.

Since she has refunds coming for each year, there won't be any penalties for filing late.

Prepare each return and mail in separate envelopes. The 2003 return needs to be files before April 15th or she will lose that refund. The others are still within the refund period and should be OK.

report as quickly as achievable for the late years. there's a three 300 and sixty 5 days statute of obstacles on refunds. For returns that have been due on April 15, 2010 for the 2009 tax 300 and sixty 5 days, you're able to report by ability of April 15, 2013 or you will forfeit any refund you would be able to nicely be due. yet once you owe tax, there is not any stataute of obstacles and you will additionally be project to overdue submitting effects and activity. in case you're owed a reimbursement, there is not any overdue submitting penalty.

One tax return per year. Go to www.irs.gov, forms and publications.
All of these can be mailed together, but they will be processed individually.
One may claim a refund for up to 3 years.

good luck & blessing
