Elevate the feeding bowls about 6 inches below the top of your dog's front shoulder. Four inches below for a small dog. Use stainless steel bowls.

First, find a premium quality food at a small petstore (no corn, no soy, no by-products and you're on the right track). You may think it costs more, but they won't need to eat as much and you will save money in vet costs owing to a healthier animal. Not to mention the benefits of having a dog that lives longer, healthier and happier, and may even have smaller less stinky poop :)

Second, based on the food you purchased, determine how much they should get per day, divide that by two or three depending on how many times you feed them. Two is minimum, but three is nice because it can help some dogs with weight control and bloat. Don't forget to take treats into consideration, if you give regular treats, feed a little less food at meal time.

Third, you can feed them out of a bowl. If the dog is crate trained, feed them in their crate. If not, any spot that is out of the way of heavy traffic and easy to clean (hard floor) will do. It is a good idea to eat your meal first, then feed your dog, especially if your dog isn't 100% convinced that you are alpha. Another alternative that some people who feed kibble and leave their dog home for long hours do is to fill kong toys or other dispensing toys with kibble (you still need to measure so you're not over or under feeding). This will keep your dog busy and entertained for hours. It will keep them from eating too fast which helps prevent bloat and obesity. And a dog who is busy getting food out of their kong isn't chewing up the sofa, knocking over the garbage can, barking at people walking down the street, etc ....

I'd like some details on your queston. Did you mean how many times a day? I feed mine twice a day because they are big dogs and they can get bloated. What kind of food? I currently use Dick Van Patten's Duck and Potato (which is sold exclusevely at Petco) because I found my dogs have food allergies. I also supplement canned food to match their dry food (just a tablespoon full) once on the weekends. Its not good for their teeth,it can make them gain weight, and can make them have loose stool. I picked they weekends because we are usaully doing something with them, and they are going to burn off the excess calories the got with the canned food. They go absolutely nuts for it! Where to feed them? I feed my dogs in their kennel so they won't steal each others food, and this is leading up to why...how to claim the food as yours before you dog becomes protective\aggressive over it? My Female Rhodesian Ridgeback gets a little nasty when she has her mouth in her bowl, but shes ok with my family, but with my new male puppy, she will all of a sudden stop eating when he is looking at her, she'll stare at him, growl and\or snap, and eat faster. So what I like to do is make her wait after I get the food into their bowls, and feed the puppy first since he is the less dominant one and the youngest. She must sit patiently and so must he while I scoop food into their bowls. Once I call him to get in his kennel, I need to hook the bowls on thier holders, and not have him try and dive in before I get my hands out. There fore I have "claimed" the food as mine before he gets to eat. Then I do the same with her. This is an excellent way to feed your dog(s) espcailly if you have one that is dominant with your family\other pets (i.e. humps your leg, or inaminate objects\other pets) and makes you the boss. You be in charge! I hope I was able to answer your question. Good Luck! :)

We have always kept feed in a bowl for our dogs at all times. We have never had trouble with over-weight pets.

Feed your dogs with 2 or 3 smaller meals a day instead of one big meal. The one big meal (especially for bigger dogs) can cause a disorder where their intestines twist and is fatal without surgery.

First, high quality food!!!!!!!!!!!!! I feed my dogs a small amount (1/3 of a cup) in the morning and one full cup at dinner. These amounts vary on dog size of course.

In a dog bowl, but if they are larger dogs make sure they are set up high enough so the dog doesn't have to bend its neck :)

Keep dry food always available and supplement with canned food once a day. Be sure there is plenty of fresh water available too.
