Theres about 6 cats that come into my house / garden looking for female cats - theres too many to operate on - any other ideas?

I would love to get them all muted - but I live in Morocco and have already taken more than 20 cats to the vet for the operation - its getting a few too many now!

Hi,

there are a few things that cats do not like. Others have mentioned citrus fruits. Ammonia is good, too. Probably the most effective (and immensly satisfying as well) is to use a garden hose...naughty, naughty.

You say the toms come after a female cat...is this yours? If it is you may never get rid of the 'followers'. If not, then dissuade the female cat from coming in and the male cats will have no 'real' reason for coming either. (unless it's to get back at you for spraying them with the garden hose!

It can be a troublesome and smelly problem,

Good luck. (The lemon/orange peel does help, and is relatively easy to try.)

Cheers,

BobSpain

Get it neutered! And, get the female ones spayed. That's the only way. Also - when done, don't forget to eliminate all stains and odours so the cat won't remember where he did it. When you say that there are too many to operate on,.... you really don't have a choice; either do what I suggested or give the cats to someone who is willing to do so.

If you haven't neutered your cat before he turned 6 months old - than he may continue the habit of 'marking his territory' even after you get him fixed (that is, if he isn't already).

One way to get him to stop would be to get a seperate litterbox (some cats prefer to urinate in one, defecate in another). Also when you see him start to spray pick him up and RUN him to the litterbox. Also clean up his mess ASAP and use cleaners (this will prevent him from doing it over and over in the same spots).

Most male cats stop a little while after being fixed, so I highly suggest you do this as soon as you can - there are plenty of shelters and associations who will do this low cost or even free.

Try scattering Orange/Lemon/Lime peel around yr garden, the cats HATE the smell. As they sniff before they spray, one wiff of the peel & they scarper!

have him neutered, it will take about a month for him to stop after the surgery, and when a male cat is neutered it will eliminate that really bad musky smell in his urine.

Neuter him - that will stop the smell, and the other cats.
