Jesus Christ, being sent from God to perform an all important, atoning mission for all mankind, knew of his purpose and reason for being here on earth. In that sense, he was a Christian. He carried out that mission and purpose completely and resolutely, and he provided the Truth, the light and the way where by we can obtain exaltation and eternal life for all mankind. It is now up to us to follow the way..

Yes and no, but mostly no.
Jesus was a Jew, and he was preaching to and being followed by other Jews. There is even very good reason to believe that when he asked that the word be spread to all the "Gentes" he did not mean "Gentiles" (a word which did not exist at the time) but Gentes, which means NATIONS, which is used to refer to all the Jews. In other words, there is reason to believe not only was he preaching to Jews, but for them as well. Whether it is right for his followers to spread his word to anyone at all is something that must be decided in their heart.

That being said, Christians can also be defined as the people who believe in Christ (Jesus calls his people those who believe in him.) In that case, if he believed in himself, he was one of those people and therefore a Christian.

That being said, there is no indication whatsoever that Jesus thought he was spreading a new religion. He felt he was refining an existing one. With that in mind, one can postulate that if Jesus existed and you were capable of going back in time to speak with him, if you asked him his religion he would've told you he was a Jew.

Jesus was a muslim as to be Muslim is to be in submission and obedience to God. He is the one God who has no partner. Nothing is like Him. He is the Creator, not the created, nor a part of His creation. He is All-Powerful, absolutely Just, All-Knowing, All-Merciful, the Supreme, the Sovereign. There is no entity worthy of worship besides Him.
Jesus never claimed to be God or anyone from God's family..
He was one of the mightiest messengers of God...

Did He follow Himself? Is that what you mean? He was led by His Father. Christianity came about because of Jesus.
