My car used to skip and jump occasionally but I sent it to one of those Christian de-programming places and had it re-heterosexualized.
Good luck!

I have had a couple 3rd gen Maximas and they're great cars. The distributors and/or ignition coils do go bad when the miles get up over 150K. Another cause that would explain the intermittent nature of the issue is old spark plug wires. If yours are old it would be a good start to replace the wires. Bad wires can cause some cross-arcing, especially when it's wet.
Then do the coil 2nd. It's hard to diagnose when it's that sporadic.

If your car has a knocking sound or it jumps It maybe has a transmission problem, and you might need to rebulid the transmission over or replace all the gears in the trans you should have it checked out by a transmission dealer or the nissan dealer which may charge you extra for checking it

You should start by checking your transmission fluid, assuming its automatic, (you didn't specify) It could also be the start of your distributor going out. I am working on a car now that does this, but dies going down the road, because of the distributor. You may also be running a bit lean, (more air than gas) Have your vehicle tuned up, and have all the fluids and filters changed.
