No. I don't think politics and religion need to coincide except for extremism (an example would be Fundametal Islamic states and Communist Atheistic states)

Buddhism is a great philosophy which reveals about the truth of our lives and the nature of the things.
Lord Buddha has taught the things which a ruler of a country should have to serve the country and it's people. Any ideology which contains kindness,love and generosity will go with Buddhism.

I don't even know if I'm a true Athiest, let alone a true Socialist...I'm put in so many categories it confuses me so I'm sometimes unsure of which category to answer so I ignore the categorisations and answer whichever I please...I'd say not in the pure sense of socialism as we Buddhists are not really concerned with the even distribution of wealth...but I'm not concerned with political ideology in the practice of the Dharma either...

If there's a correlation I'm unconcerned about it...

Peace from a Buddhist..

If you're referring to what we call "classical" socialism, then no, they would not make a good fit. On the philosophical level, this is mostly to do with the issue of materialism and metaphysics, on which the two groups are in total disagreement.

Keep in mind that socialist theory proposes an increase in the material standard of living of the population. The popular notion that socialism is predicated on the distribution of wealth is badly informed.

Independents. Many Buddhist I know tend to vote in an issue by issue fashion after examining all the facts.

~~~Sofia,,, Respectfully, the very concept of buddhism is apolitical, but if you must pigeon-hole for categorization, I would call them Social-Communists,,,, but I would urge you to do a quick study of Confucianism, as this deals directly with the Politics of Social Structure, from the Eastern Concept.
I don't think there is a political affiliation. Likely , if one did exist, it would be Libertarian.
