Wilfred Benitez would KO Davis early. Many 5 rounds.

Interesting matchup. A lot of folks thought that Davis Jr. would quickly become a champion and have as good a career as Sugar Ray Leonard which of course never happened. Benitez was one of the most clever natural fighters I've ever seen and he was very clever with great counterpunching skills. Davis Jr. had extremely fast hands which is his strong point. In this match I see Benitez being just too good an overall boxer for Davis Jr. using his great defense and counterpunching effectively winning the unanimous decision.

Howard Davis was named top boxer during the 1976 Olympics. This being when Leonard and both Spinks brothers were the ones he was compared to. Quite something to live up to. I liked Davis but he was too much of a mover. Benitez was a tough boxer with as much skill as Davis except Benitez took it to you. Benitez by decision.

Benitez by KO or TKO. He was one of the best 140 pounders of all time and also a very good welterwight. Howard Davis never really fulfilled his potential from the Olympics & wasn't much of a puncher.

Benitez inside 8 rounds. He will dispose of Howard Duran-esque style.

benetiz.if not for leonard, benetiz would have been champion for a long time. much more skilled, and a bigger fighter than davis, who was more the result of hype from olympics than anything else
