because a lie will only lead to more lies then it will explode on your face. and if you become a habitual liar...eventually, no one will ever believe you anymore. and worse...you will also get "lost"... you can no longer separate lies from realities. eventually, there will be no one to lie to anymore cuz you will be left without any friends.

I like this question, I believe there are two type of lies, one is the perverable white lie, where you tell it because you really don't want to hurt the other persons feelings but you have enough sense to make an effort at the answer...wife/girlfriend/husband/boyfriend to significant other..do you think i am fat... generally this question results in the lie...no dear..you look great and i would not change a thing about you...i love you just the way you are... should you tell them the truth..that they do in fact look fat and could probably benefit from some weight loss. or the outfit is not what you would want to be seen around... my answer to this..is no tel them what they want to hear as telling the truth could be disastrous.
Then there is the second nefarious lie...the hateful lie...the one you tell over and over changing it ever so slightly to be more and more convincing to the point you have no idea on what the truth was in the first place... this lie can get out of control and when the truth comes out and as you all know it always does.... someone will get hurt, lose a friend...lose a job..etc...etc....
I suppose there is no real reason to lie in the first place...but then there is that stupid thing called feelings that always get in the way...
by the way ...i could be lying. ;o)

first of all, ask yourself how you feel when people lie to you and that should answer your question. if not, then:
unless you have a perfect memory you'll probably forget your lies and screw up by telling the truth accidently...especially if you involve alcohol. plus facts are easier to remember because you cant change the truth
there's never a good excuse for lying and if you dont believe me, ask other people who've been lied to
it's better to avoid all the negative emotions/situations you'll experience if the truth comes out
you risk destroying relationships, trust, and respect
you risk the lie(s) not being forgiven and/or forgotten which can become a big pain in the a** later on down the line, especially if they seek revenge
you basically give permission for people to lie to you in return
once you do it and "think" you get away with it, your more likely to do it again, and again, and again
some people can lie so much they actually start to believe their own lies and may continue lying to the point of no guilt, remorse, conscience, etc.

because one lie leads to another to make the first lie seem real but than you have to live up to the second lie which takes a third lie and then eventually you've lied so much that you're in a tangle of lie that you can't find a way out of and then people turn against you because every word out of your mouth is a lie even if you're telling the truth.
You reality becomes fake and you stop knowing the truth from lies.
sad how lying can ruin lives eh?

People who lie, get caught sooner or later, then you look like a dishonest fool, and people won't trust a word that comes from you. You will be much better, physically and emotionally to always tell the truth. People who lie aren't very happy.

Because you're telling somebody one thing when in reality, that's not the case. But lying isn't neccesarily bad. Sometimes you have to lie to keep a secret. It depends on the lie's nature.

It depends on why your lying, if it is to hide something from a special someone such as a trip your planning then I would say that is covering up. If it is because you have or you know something that would hurt another person, it is wrong. Think about how you would feel if someone did it to you. Granted we all lie, but is morally wrong when your being deceptive.

generally speaking a lie will catch up to you then you will have to tell a bigger one to cover the first,be honest the first time and everyone knows where they stand being deceitful makes people not trust you or repect what you have to say they will think it is just a lie anyway i am always accused of being to blunt

It's not good to lie because then people won't believe you later on in your lifetime. Then once you do tell the truth people are sure to not belive you. And by the way...WHY?
