To be clear I'm talking about NFL footballs, which I understand Wilson makes from pig leather.

I'm talking about this Lev. 11:6-8
And the swine, though he divide the hoof, and be clovenfooted, yet he cheweth not the cud; he is unclean to you.
Of their flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcase shall ye not touch; they are unclean to you.

In the early days of Football's invention, the ball was covered in pigskin. Somewhere down the line, Leather, was used and is the standard cover for professional football sports.
The term "Pig skin" is still used despite that fact. Maybe its paying homage to the early days, maybe its just word habit that has been handed down. Either way - the ball is made of leather.

I'm not sure if touching it is against Jewish laws but I know eating it is. And as said, it's not literally made from pig skin.

Wilson makes NFL footballs from premium cowhide leather. They certainly do not use pigskin. And it is only the very strictest Orthodox Jews who would have a problem with this and I cannot imagine an Orthodox Jew playing football. What ask this question anyway? What was your point?

lol! i tried to tell my 6 year old son that when he asked to play football, because i alway hated jocks, but he wasn't buying it. my hubby would have ratted me out anyway.
it's eating it that isn't kosher, and they aren't made of pig skin anymore.

There's no problem with handling a pigskin football so long as one does not eat it.

They aren't made of pigskin, actually cowhide. But still, what if they were?
