depending on your background, a good place to start would be to go to barnes and noble and get a book by author jack daniels. no joke, this book will provide you with in depth training schedules to help the beginner to the elite runner. daniels is a respected coach and author of many programs on how to train for distances from the mile to the marathon.

First of all don't you have a coach if you are running track this year?
First you have to do distance to get a base. Run at least 5 to 7 miles 3 days a week. Then do speed work at least 2 times a week. For a miler do 2x800,4x400,2x600,4x200. I also recommend that you run Cross Country in the Fall. Your workouts will just get a little faster in high school and you will see improvement. Good Luck!!!
