The stabbing pains just come on randomly (when I am not holding my breath) and I have to hold my breath until it stops hurting (breathing makes it hurt more). I usually take a few deep breathes afterwards, just to help everything calm down, but I don't like breathing when it is happening.
It is somewhere in my chest area, near the front on the side where my heart is, near my ribs, or just inside from them.
I am only 17, female.

Go see your GP...

About 2 years ago, I got a sharp stabbing pain in my chest just up by my collar bone. Breathing in made it worse...I tried to ignore it for a few days and took pain killers. Then I started to notice that when I bent forward I got a "rumbling" sensation in my chest...it turned out to be a collapsed lung!
Totally spontaneous!

Apparently it's very common..especially if you are quite tall, and skinny.

I was put on strong painkillers and told to rest for a week, and it re-inflated itself!

This happened 4 more times in about 18 months, progressively getting worse each time. I ended up having an operation to stop it happening again!

I've not had any problems since!

Don't panic...I know it sounds bad...but it's really not!

Good luck! :)

Do you have a temperature - could be pleurisy - but go to local doc/nurse/casualty and get it checked out. Any of the above about blood clots as well? Better to be safe than sorry!
Good luck

You might have a displaced rib or maybe a broken rib. Go see a doc and get a x ray. If that is negative then go see a chiropractor.

Peace
