They don't like them, and women are only allowed to have one set of pierced ears. Why, because the prophet told them so. Like they say "once the prophet has spoken, the thinking has been done".
I think you should be able to decide for yourself if you want a tattoo,or more piercings in you ears. You shouldn't have to do it because some guy told you, you couldn't. If you're LDS and someone finds out you got a tattoo, after the prophet told you not to, you will never hear the end of it from your fellow Latter-Day Saints.

Pink,
I think the LDS people have a right to think from themselves. I believe your prophets are false. I have friends who are LDS. I'm not bitter, but impassioned to inform people about what the LDS church truly believes, not the watered down version the missionaries give them.

Well, I will say I have seen some really interesting tattoo designs, but to be honest, I would rather see them as a screenprint on a T-shirt, or a thousand T-shirts, instead of having them on someone's body. I don't hold them against anyone, but I believe that it is not really something Jesus Christ would have personally. People have already mentioned the fact that the human body is a temple, and the prophet has said not to get one (by the way, we all have the right to pray about every single thing the prophet says) and there are so many other creative ways to express yourself that you don't really need to use human skin. One of the grossest things I ever heard of was some Nazi woman in World War 2 who made a book cover or something out of human skin, so again, you have to consider where does the idea come from that human skin is an art media or raw material. Really, Jesus Christ purchased our lives - both our spiritual and physical lives with the Atonement, and I am pretty sure that tattoos won't be included in the Resurrection. Again, I don't hold anything against anyone who has a tattoo, but I would discourage people from getting them because I don't think it is inspired by the right source, and there are other creative ways to express art. I don't think much one way or the other about the little temporary water-based tattoos, and there are temporary stamps for things like being admitted to amusement parks or dances which I think are neutral (as they can be washed off later).

My belief is that any permanent art on the body is wrong. Like others, I've seen some beautiful works of art in the form of tatoos, but I'd much rather have a copy on paper in a frame. Over time even the beautiful tattoos fade and just look yucky.

But to fellow members of the church, can't you just see some RM with CTR or RWH or 1 of 2,000 tattooed on their bicep or forearm? hahaha

The general opinion amongst the LDS community is that it's contrary to God's will. It has to do with the whole body being a temple thing, and treating it like one.

I'm an artist, and I can definitely appreciate the skills of some tatoo artists, I just wouldn't ever get one on my body.

The LDS church (mormons) are against tattoos due to the fact that your body was created by God. It is a temple. If you were meant to have grafiti on your body then God would have put it there.

Wow- mistyann, you sound somewhat bitter - are you a former member? We believe that when the prophet has spoken he is speaking for the Lord...ever heard the scripture "whether by mine own voice or the voice of my servants, it is the same"?? We believe that.
We believe when given counsel from the prophet, it is first given to him from the Lord. We are to treat our bodies with respect.

They defile the body and are bad for you... They are also very painful and can cause severe complications, esp. due to loss of blood... Mormon or not, I don't see why anyone would want one.

Our leaders discourage and forbid it.

Personally, I feel I do not need any tattoo at all.

If I was one, I'd have an answer.

I know that A true born again Christian would not have one.
Unless of course he got it before becoming born again.

As long as you weren't black before 1978, you are alright.
