I am moving to Los Angeles or close by. I like Lancaster but I'm not sure how close to downtown LA it is. I want to know if its location is a convenient driving distance for me.

It will be a hectic drive as a lot of people have moved into that area that work in the Los Angeles area. I think the closest movie and TV studios will be in Burbank. (Warner and Disney) I suggest you try the San Fernando Valley area or the Glendale-Burbank area.

Lancaster is Not even close to downtown; commute time can take up to a few hours. Movie studios are in Hollywood, West LA, Manhattan Beach, and Santa Clarita area.

Palmdale / Lancaster is not as bad as other posters would like you to believe. It is, however, mostly track homes and strip malls. But you it's open and relatively uncongested.. It's the high desert, so you get the high desert weather. There has been a lot of housing built there over the last few years, and prices are relatively cheap, hence the interest in living there.

It is a killer commute one hour minimum. I've know people who lived there that have a 3 hour commute depending on where they work. That's 3 hours ONE WAY.

There is the MetroLink rail out there, if you're going to commute, that's the way to do it.

LANCASTER?!?!?! The only way someone can see positive about that town, is if you are looking on-line and being persuaded by some huge multi million dollar development company wanting to sell the area because the land was sooo cheap to purchase and mass produce track homes. You don't want to move there!!!! No matter what type of deal you are getting! (Well, unless you are a drug manufacturer, dealer or user.. Or a registered sex offender, ex con or welfare recipient). Just look on line at www.meganslaw.com and see how many sex offenders are registered in such a small area. Or look at this site: http://lancasterca.areaconnect.com/crime1.htm and do a comparison to the crime in say Burbank, CA. It's just a bad place!!!

And okay.... there are some good people who live there, so don't show the hate people if you are one of them.

And back to your question... if you were to actually move there... even after all the negative advise you are being given, know that it will take you AT LEAST two hours every morning and two hours every night to get to down town L.A. The traffic is horrendous! Settle for a smaller home in the San Fernando Valley or a loft in L.A., Hollywood or its outskirts. If the crime is not a deterrent, then the drive really should be!

i would hate to have that drive. personally, i think lancaster is nice but i'm not sure if it is worth the awful drive to downtown. if u are just going to some of the movie/tv studios like in burbank, it won't be as terrible, but u will still be facing a lot of heavy traffic.

Why on earth do you want to move to Lancaster ?? It's nowhere near the city of LA. There's no movie/studio biz there...and If you need to commute to LA, it will take you well over an hour and a half in rush hour. maybe longer depending on where you need to go.

Lancaster is at least a one hour drive to downtown LA (without traffic). It is rather isolated from LA and its immediate suburbs. There is also a state prison there and a high crime rate. It smells like meth is being mass manufactured in the area. I would advise strongly against Lancaster (and neighboring Palmdale) no matter how attractive the housing prices seem.

Santa Clarita would be your best bet. Many of my neighbors work for movie studios and they live in Santa Clarita. Besides, it's really nice here in Santa Clarita/Valencia area.
