Beauty salons must use barbecide. Its cheap and can be brought from any salon supplies
Please dont just use hot water as this is not the proper form of sterilisation for salons and will not get rid of the bacteria picked up.
If you are quilified this should have all been in your course work.
If it wasnt then i suggest you talk to whom ever taught you.

First the comb or brush must be free from hair, so pull it out and then it needs to be washed in a cleaning solution, left to saok in that for 10 to 15 minutes, then rinsed out with hot water. After that it is put in a second soultion that will kill the germs like barbicide, some states use quats, which is even stronger but it eats away your combs very badly. They stay in the barbicide for 10 to 15 minutes and then they are rinsed again with hot water, dryed and placed in to a closed clean container until they are used on the next client. Every state has different rules so find out what they are for your state. You also should never use the same comb on two people without cleaning it properly and wash your hands before and after using these solutions, I have seen people break out from them becasue they are so harsh. Shears must be cleaned with something like alcohol in between every cut and clippers should be brushed free of hair and then a spray like clippercide should be sprayed on it. All sufaces should be cleaned off in between customers. We use barbicide to clean out shampoo bowls and counter tops also. Just do not use it on mirrors, it works horribly. Glass cleaner should be used there. Washing your hands in between customers or applying hand sanitizor works well also. Use clean capes and sanek strips on each customer and if there is ever a question of cleanliness get a new cape, comb, brush, etc. But again every state is different, check with your local barbering and cosmetology board. Good luck!

Hot water won't do it! you would need an autoclave (technical pressure cooker) and apply correct temperature for at least 20 minutes at typically 120 celcius. These are expensive and chemical methods are probably cheaper, more reliable and safer.

Don't rely on hot water for baby's bottle either - that's what Milton is for!
