Please help me! I am tired of staying home. I am trying my best to get out off the house, but there is something that is holding me back. A couple weeks ago it was the snow, but now the snow is clearing up but I am still home. What do you think is going on? I mean someone point out they sense little depression, but I don’t think I am or may be I don’t see it. I know I can go talk to a therapist, so that is not a kind of tip I want from you guys. I just want you guys to tell me why you do, when you feel down. Please help only good tips! Thanks!

(I want you to know that in no way do I claim to be a therapist, psychologist, or doctor.)

Maybe what you are going through is a common response to winter. Sometimes people call it "winter blues". It is due to a lack of sunlight. I have heard of people wearing a headlamp that shines light on your face. You can get them from a doctor.

If this is something that has continued since before winter, or you have other symptoms that you don't want to share, it could be something more serious.

it has been proven that when man is without fresh air and sushine he gets the blahs and don't feel like doing diddly. Try this it helps me. Step outside your door and onto the side walk and look at everything around you. Take in a deep breath and force yourself to stand there for just a little while longer. If you are physically able, take a walk around your block or even to the end of the side walk and back. Go back into your house and have a glass of OJ get cleaned up with a shower and clean clothes then step outside again and do the same. You may bet the blahs again but at the end of the day you will have something different to review than yesterday and will realize that you have made a start into feeling better.

Make a determined effort just to get out of the house. That's the goal, not what you do. Just get out. Go with a friend to a comedy show..that would work wonders!!!! Read a local paper for events, clubs, etc. and JUST GO ! Get a dog, plenty you can rescue, and that will give you a buddy depending on you for walks. Ask a church if they have any sick or elderly that need a visit or chores done around the house, shopping. Get a metal detector...just get up and go!

Don't play around with this and allow lay people to diagnose you. It could be depression. It could be anxiety disorder. I could be both. If you want us to answer you with heartfelt advise, then don't restrict answerers from what is truly best for you. If you don't want to see a therapist, go to your doctor. But meds work best when they are coupled with therapy.

I would say to change your routine, but you are having difficulty doing so as you admit! How can people give you tips if the tip that is going to help you is the one you restricted us from giving? Good luck and feel better.

You need to get some exercise to get the endorphins moving in your brain. You may also be affected by the lack of sunshine in the winter. That is a common form of depression. The best tip is to see your Dr. You don't want to hear that but it's true.

Try telling yourself that the fresh air will do you good. Start by taking a short walk everyday. Soon this will be a routine and you will not want to miss it. Eventually you will want to increase the distance a bit. You will enjoy knowing that you are doing something positive for your body and mind. Each walk will be a small success. Good Luck

I don't know your situation or how long it has been going on, but my doctor put me on lexapro for depression. My problem was paranoia. It has really helped me.
