The most accurate version of the bible is the King James, but only IF it is read in conjunction with the Strong's Exhaustive Concordance of the bible at it's side, so nothing is interpreted wrongly. The Strong's Exhaustive Concordance of the bible gives the Hebrew and Greek original meanings of Every Word in the bible. This is the only way a person can know the true meanings of the bible, the way the bible is meant to be understood, other-wise, it is all taken in by "irrational blind faith."

I sometimes enjoy reading the Amplified Bible, because it LOUDLY "Amplifies" the original meanings of the Hebrew (for the Old Testament) and the Greek (for the New Testament) in it. It is just like using the King James version with the Strong's Concordance along side. But everyone has their favorite version.

As to "THE BEST" Version, it all depends on how one defines the word "BEST".

It is irrational to assume that one version of the bible is better than another version of the bible.

I read the bible, along with many, many other Philosophical books, to learn, educate myself,
and to help keep myself Optimistic as I daily transform my mind, fjor Peace of Mind, and Happiness.

But many people, read a version of the bible, that is user friendly for them, that helps them understand its basic principles. It a personal choice, for most.

Thanks for Your Question.

Depends on what you're looking for. When I just want to read the Bible at my leisure, I read The Message. It's in very contemporary English. When I'm studying the Bible, I use the King James Version, and supplement it with the New International Version to make sure I understand it.

They all have the same message. It depends on what you're able to understand.

New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures, available from Jehovah's Witnesses.

It is a modern language, largely literal translation of the Bible, based upon the original languages of Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek.

Its biggest asset is that it restores God's Name to the Bible where the majority of Bibles have removed it almost 7,000 times.

That Name, YHWH in Hebrew, is translated into English as Jehovah. It is in the KJV 4 times at Exodus 6:3; Psalm 83:18; Isaiah 12:2; 26:4.

You can read it on line at the first link below:

Many people criticize it, but perhaps they need to consider some of the information at the second link below, called "In Defense of the NWT."

Read the New American Bible. There are losts of footnotes explaining obscure passages and introduction giving historical background to each book, and it contains ALL of the books that were put into the Bible in the 300s

An online copy can be found at http://www.usccb.org/nab/bible/

They're all historically accurate, meticulously researched, and brimming with fact and truth.

Oh, wait.

(In all seriousness: Avoid the King James. I'm not sure what defines "the best", but King James defined the worst.)
