The picture was of a starving African child crawling to a UN relief center, and in the background was a vulture waiting for the kid to die so he could eat him.

Edit to post: I've had some time to think about this photo and, to be perfectly frank, it bothers the hell out of me. I am of the "think globally, act locally" variety and, as such, know that I am but one woman who is not likely to affect world hunger.

What I CAN do, however, is help a child that I have just photographed being stalked by a vulture. I could aim my camera, take the picture, put my camera down, pick up the little girl and carry her to the UN relief center.

This photographer did not. Rather, he took the photo and left. When asked later about the fate of the girl, he could not answer. He simply didn't know.

World hunger was not the only story this photo told. The sadder story was the one of pure selfish ambition trumping kindness.
