If, in addition to muslims, gitmo held 11 family members and friends of Timothy McVeigh, and none of those 11 people were charged with a crime or permitted to challenge their detention, would you support this?

Were they found on the field of Afghanistan shooting at Americans, but not wearing any kind of uniform?

Then, sure. Why not?

What a loaded question! Suspects are not friends and family members. Those guys at gitmo were pointing guns, were picked up in a war zone.

American Muslims are NOT picked up off the street and shipped to Cuba. The Siege is just a film.

I'm not for holding people without charge (prisoners of war have their own conventions). But it did happen before, to Japanese and Italian Americans during World War II (most of which were non-Muslim).

Of course, it's a bad idea, because the French did it in Algeria.

Salam :) i'm a Muslim teen residing in Canada. I positioned on hijab alhamdullilah and that is for the main section nicely-known right here considering the fact that i stay in a huge city with a great Muslim inhabitants. I do get the few ignorant comments and idiots in college nevertheless who ask stuff like "yo have been given a bomb under there hahaha". however the toughest section is being diverse out of your pals. Being a Muslim, events, alcohol relationship boys wearing revealing outfits and so on is haram, and jointly as i do no longer prefer to try this besides, that is somewhat awkward to could clarify why i do no longer do it to those that evaluate it only a factor of being a young person and its common to them. Muslims residing in Muslim international places truthfully have it much less complicated while it includes setting up in. And with nutrition that is somewhat problematic yet I continually attempt to study the label if i'm unsure of the aspects. yet i does no longer wanna be the different faith no count how confusing it gets and how diverse i've got self assurance from all people else, i'm satisfied to be Muslim :)

I am a conservative American who believes that my president has gone awry.

Everyone in Gitmo MUST be afforded some kind of due process. We must charge them or release them. Those are rights granted by our government to US Citizens, but I believe those rights are among those "inalienable rights" that our Declaration of Independence says we are endowed with by our Creator.

I think that if there is credible evidence that they might be participating in a terrorist plot, then we need to produce that evidence. I can see, in the short term, where it might be necessary to detain people, but it's been years now. There ought to be a limitation on how long one can be held before charges are filed.

It is a distinct possibility, all Amercans can be put in prison through the Millitary act of 2006+ and held without due process. This is one of the reasons why this president is not only the dumbest but also the most dangerous in U.S. history.

Would never support illegal detention of people ever. At the very least they deserve to face their accusers. Doing it this way makes the US look like terrorists too. no wonder the rest of the world hates us!

It is about time we practise what we preach!

What if it held Bugs Bunny and Tony Soprano and the Lucky Charms Leprechaun? Oh, my!

Would you support that?

I'm trying to figure out what your "what if" scenario has to do with reality, and why I should find it worthy of an answer.

Um, what do you mean "what if"... I am sure they already have some poor people locked up on trumped up charges that will be released after 5 years without a trial.

You obviously lack the understand of the legal process.

There is a difference how prisoners are treated if taken from the battlefield and taken by the police.

No doubt you're a product of our gvmt education system.

Your asking me to think outside the box. That would make the administration look like fascists with their no-fly lists, secret prisons, denial of habeas and constant power grabs, kidnapping and torture. ... Wait a minute, they do look like fascists.
