I'm specifically looking for freeware/shareware that completely cleans all the errors it finds on my registry without my having to 'register' (i.e., pay for) it.

http://www.eusing.com/free_registry_cleaner/registry_cleaner.htm (absolutely free)

What you need to do is go to a site like www.downloads.com and search in registry cleaner tools. What you need to pay attention to is the LIcense info. This will either be shareware or free. shareware is used as a testing ground for software so will only get demo versions that most times give you a 30 day trial or some other limitation like that. The ones where the license is free is just that F-R-E-E.

good luck

Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. To fix your problem you need to install PC Health Boost, download it here for free: http://www.getpchealthboost.com

It's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate; it's also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than normal. Install it, hit run and problem solved. It shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes.
