Composting right now is not an option.

How about other foods?

Well, that's as clear as mud now isn't it! But thanks for your answers and entertainment. These seem like complicated trade offs that may even vary from community to community. Since the landfill is probably an expensive place to compost, I'm leaning towards the drain for small amounts of food, until I can get a compost working.

Either way is not going to be that great. When you can start a compost pile that would be the thing to do. Composts can take pretty much anything except for cat litter, bones, and meat.

Since composting is best, you could empty the tea into soil that you have house plants in. We always found a dog was a good way to get rid of food waste, she even ate a tea bag once. If no dog, landfill or incineration is better than the water treatment plant and into a waterway.

OK to be the only one to actually answer your question without a lot of other opinions (besides science teacher doesn't know jack); ecologically in the U.S. it is better to put it down the drain cause it has a higher probablity to be compsed out. With that being said, waste disposors use/waste a lot of water, so composting is the best by far.

Probably the most responsible and ecological thing to do is to not worry about it. Worrying about it wastes more time, energy, and resources than just doing anything with it. Think of all the fuel that had to be burned to supply the electricity to run your computer, the monitor, the computer Internet connection for not only your computer, but for all the people's computers who answer your question! I am sure this far exceeds any waste caused by your tea leaves. You should be ashamed and more environmentally responsible.

A lot of trash goes to the incenerator, not the landfill, so it probably doesn't matter.

I usually put them in my compose bin along with coffee grinds, do you have one? Also, I collect them in a container until is full and put 'em in the compose bin, but sometimes I'm too lazy and just toss them in the trashcan. wink! ;)

trash, it will go to the landfill and decompose. if you put it in the sink it will go to the water treatment plant.
