I have been looking for a new car and I really like the olds intrigue but the grand am is a cheaper price and has less miles, they are both V6 4 door. I was just wondering which would be the better car in general like as far as the body engine eletrical, etc.

Before you go believing all these people who say Japanese cars are so great, go and visit the Toyota and Honda boards on this site. Funny, for such great vehicles there are lots of trouble, don't you think?

There is a reason the Grand Am is cheaper, I'm sure. More miles, one year older, maybe others. Test drive them both and make your decision based on how they feel to you, and how they fit your needs.

Pull the oil cap and look to see any creamy residue - a sign of leaking intake or head gaskets. Pull the dipstick as well. Look around underneath - is everything rusted, or is it nice and clean (or completely rebuilt?)

Either car can be a very good one for you. Take your time and look them over good, and get a warranty if you can 'just in case'.

Good luck!

I must warn you. I have owned a 99 Grand Am since 2000. It has been a piece of JUNK!!!! I have talked with other 99 Grand Am owners and they had the same problems as I. I had problems with the factory radio, so I had to install a new one. All the vinyl on all 4 doors peeled up at the windows. I've had to replace all the motors for the windows on all 4 doors. Oh and here's the big one: I had to put a new engine in it after only owning it for 2 years! I would recommend going with the Intrigue.

The Intrigue is a better car -- probably one of the best GM ever made, assuming it was well taken care of. However, neither of these is as good as a good used Honda, Toyota, or Mazda.
Very few of GM's cars (or Ford of Chrysler) gets very high marks in Consumer Reports. Just food for thought.

Good Luck

Definately the Intrigue.
Depending on options and conditions- it should be in the vicinity of $5K. Certainly not more than $6K.

There's a reason why the Grand Am is a cheaper price...

The Intrigue is better but i would recommend a foreign car such as a Honda or Toyota.
