There are two types of whales, baleen and toothed. Baleen, or Mysticeti, are the largest of the whales. They are characterized by baleen plates. These whales engulf a large amount of seawater, then push the water out with their tongues, trapping krill, plankton and small crustaceans in the baleen plates. This is their primary food source. This group includes the Blue Whale, the largest of all animals. Toothed whales, Odontoceti, have teeth and are active hunters. They feed on fish, squid, and in the case of Orcas, other marine mammals. Toothed whales are a suborder of Cetaceans, the order that includes toothed whales, dolphins and porpoises.
