I mean the Turks enslaved the Greeks for four hundred years, took their children in blood tax and did a bunch of horrific things to them, and they are mad that they fought for their independence. I just don't understand, maybe because I see it from a Greek point of view. Explain it to me

I dont beleive Turks themselves hate Greeks, as Greeks themselves don't hate Turks. People today have all learned to live together peacefully, however a few shady bad politicians have caused and every now and then still ignite a feud and then the people think they are threatened from both sides, leaving everyone uneasy and a sense of nationalism.

However, it is logical for Greeks to have a more distasteful feeling of Turkey (the country, not the people) because of what they have been through. The truth is in history books of what the Ottoman Turks have done to people in that region and there are plenty of horror stories of treatment of people. Whether in Ottoman times or present Turkish times, poor treatment of people by the Turkish military is what Turkey is known for all over the world. This is what causes people to feel so strong about their feelings.

As a frequent visitor of both Turkey and Greece on business, I see how people from each country visit and vacation and have fun as if nothing ever came between. Over 400 years of slavery will never really be forgotten, but people today realise that its to each ones own benefit that they live peacefully together and help out with one common cause, their region. Lets face it, regardless of which way you put it, both Turks and Greeks are here to stay. Drink a glass of Raki and a glass of Ouzo and then you will see the difference. Is there any?

The only thing as an American that I see wrong with both side's beleif is that for the Greeks they feel that they will be stabbed in the back once again and that for the Turks that they beleive the military is right at all times, no matter what. While vacationing once on the Greek Island of Rhodes, i seen Turkish fighter jets fly above us while on the beach, literally, and Greek jets chasing them out of the way. This was Greek airspace, why do that? Turkey was next on my trip, but I went there with a feeling that war was coming next. LIVE TOGETHER PEACEFULLY!

If we have done the things u were talking about, for example, now, you would be talking in turkish, wouldnt even know about greek language. u wouldnt even be still christian. for example, many of Irish and Scottish people doesnt know their own language and they are just like english people; because Ottomans let people live how they wanted. All you wrote here is not the true history, because Ottomans have not interfere the minorities, they managed to have so much lands. All people, Turkish or not, were equivalent. When exploiter countries started to look for new profits, they incite minorities who were living in Ottoman boundaries peacefully against Ottomans.

i should say that all you wrote is not coming from the greek nationalism, i think, it is racism.

Finally, i like Greeks and have no problem with them. i am against racism even if racism is from turkish people. As i wrote an answer to a question in Greece Category, i hope, in Eurovision, the winner this year will be Greece or Turkiye because there is no any other which support us (i mean not Turkiye; us; you and we!) much more than each other.

I'm so so sad for u now..U learned everything wrong I think. Look, I like Greeks I have no problem with them, so honestly I find Greek history education and view so nationalist.

Turks didn't enslave Greeks. We didn't kill them (if we don't count our indepence war with Greeks)..Greeks were so free in Ottoman Empire. They did their art, bussiness freely. Also they were more free from other countries in Ottoman Empire (because of this Greece is the first country who seperated from Ottoman Empire with an insurrection and Padishah gave Greeks indepence with an agreement, there wasn't a war)..Greeks and Turks were friends for hundred of years. And they're still..

And as a Turk, I have no problem with Greeks. They are lovely people ;-)
