I boiled eggs, and then turned off the burner. The problem is, I forgot and left the eggs in the water for about 3 hours. Once I remembered, I refrigerated them, but I'm not sure if they'll still be good. I suppose I could crack on open and smell it, but hard boiled eggs don't smell very pleasant to begin with. . .

If the boiled eggs remained in the boiled water the entire time, they should be fine, as any bacteria or other organisms would have been killed by the boiling, making the eggs, and water, sterile.

Eggs are cheap enough. If you aren't sure, throw them out and start over. Salmonella is a common problem amongst eggs.

Once they reach 135 degrees, they need to be consumed, or cooled and refrigerated to 40 degrees. The danger zone is 2 hours or more for when they are more than 40 and less than 135.
