I have heard that consuming anything out of plastic plates, cups, bowls, etc. is unhealthy and that you should only use ceramic or glass. I have also heard that that is completely false.

Do you know a website that supports either argument?

What I've seen on the news an so in over the past few years is re-using plastics; such as washing in hot water or microwaving and putting in dishwasher. I believe that it mainly was directed at pliable plastics such as water bottles and other more disposable items. Heating the plastics cause the release of carcinogenic agents.

The story fizzled out quickly - it was not accurate. Apparently it was someones college thesis that got sent to the press. Here's the link: http://www.snopes.com/medical/toxins/petbottles.asp

Here's a link from the American Cancer Society and Jphn Hopkins explaining the scare: http://www.cancer.org/docroot/MED/content/MED_6_1x_Reusing_Plastic_Water_Bottles.asp?sitearea=MED

I'm sorry I do not have a website that posts an argument but I just want to say that I would still eat off of plastic or paper plates no matter what! It is so convienent and who knows maybe in a couple years they will start saying how glass and ceramic bowls and plates are toxic! Its only a matter of time. So who cares, you only live once and I highly doubt a plastic cup or bowl is going to kill us.

Only if the plastic begins to breakdown. I think it's call plasticized. If you melt it in the microwave to the point it goes into the food, it can cause cancer. Always use microwave products, not butter bowls etc. Also using plastic over and over like refilling the water bottles we get our water in. Some put them in the dishwasher and reuse them. Better to just buy new bottles of water. I read this in a book about the 7 principals to a healthy life.

I have heard that it is for animals --tht's why dog dishes, etc. are made out of stainless steel. So it goes to figure it would harm adults also.
