Don't know if this is what you're looking for but the Japanese term for red is 'Hi' - which is pronounced "He"

Japanese red is probably just the name given by a manufacturer, I have never come across this colour in any of the standard brands of oil/acrylic/ or watercolour. I presume it refers to a colour similar to that on the Japanese Flag, that colour red is a fairly vibrant red, probably like a Cadmium Red Medium or a Vermilion, both of these colours are true in the sense that the are from natural pigments and though the shades may vary in different paint brands the inherent qualities will be the similar. Cadmium red is a warm vivid red and Vermilion is a vivid red but slightly pinker.

You know, colours have all different names depending on the manufacturer. Why don(t you stick on the "red, blue, yellow, black, white"s and mix your colours yourself ?
