Well, I'm not white, I'm multi racial... Hudspeth is my grandmother's family's name. Her original surname.

Origin: Dutch

Spelling variations of this family name include: Hudspeth, Hochepied, Hochepiet, Hodepiet, Hodespiet, Huddespeth, Hudspethe, Hudseth, Hedgespeth, Hudgpeth, Hedgepeth, Huddeseth and many more.

First found in Holland, where the name became noted for its many branches in the region, each house acquiring a status and influence which was envied by the princes of the region.

Some of the first settlers of this family name or some of its variants were: John Hedgepath, who settled in Virginia in 1677; William Hudspeth, who settled in Allegheny Co., PA in 1844; J. C. Hudspeth, who came to San Francisco in 1851.

i just did a ton of research for a friend whose grandmother was biracial. her name was hedgebeth/hedgepeth. They were in Nansemond County, Virginia. let me know if that is the same as your line.
