I am looking for a new car and for price and gas reasons I am looking at small SUV's. I know very little about cars, but have done my research and test drove both. Neither really strike me as very favorable by looks alone- can anyone give me any advice as to which is the better car overall? I am in my mid 20's and a teacher, I snowboard so will take my car to ski country, I live in the Northeast(for now) so i do see some tough winters and am looking for something that will not consume gas. I will probably also go for the top of line versions of either car for certain extras

Take a look at the Subaru Forester or wagons, those are very impressive vehicles.

Rav vs. CRV I say is a draw.

They're both great vehicles, but I just bought a 2007 CRV EXL with Navi, and love it. The RAV4 is very nice, but I think the interior looks cheap, whereas the CRV is really nice (with leather). Also I don't like the spare tire sticking out of the back on the RAV4. But both are safe, reliable, and really good SUV's. I am getting about 24mpg average, and it's not broken in yet.

Both get 30mpg on the hwy. I give the style edge to CR-V. But the RAV4 has the power advantage as you can get the optional 269hp V6. CR-V is only available in 4 cylinder 166hp.

I think the CRV has better interior and build, while the Rav4 looks better on the outside. your choice which you prefer!
