A Class 3 license from the BATF or a felony.

For starters........ a Class 3 firearms license. Do it legal or not at all. The last thing you want to do is invest the time and money into your rifle, only to have a cop take it from you and give you a felony for illegal firearms possesion. This license/permit can be obtained through your local law enforcement and IT IS LEGAL TO DO, if you take the appropriate steps. All the criteria will be defined in the Class 3 paperwork and then you're good to go. You can contact companies that sell AR parts and once you have the paperwork to do it legal, then you can buy the lower receiver guts to replace the ones in there now. Its the trigger group, hammer and sear that get replaced, by the full auto/three round burst trigger group. And there's your full auto rifle, although I would not recommend full auto, but rather 3 round burst, as you will waste an insane amount of ammo. 3 burst will give you moderate accuracy if you aim center-mass on your target. Full-auto will just send rounds all over the place. You can't shoot accurately on full-auto.......the barrel will climb into the sky and then you are endangering something downrange a mile or five. 3 burst will send multiple rounds to the general area you are aiming and then stop shooting until you re-aim and fire again. Your magazine will last much longer and your shots will be better placed. I have personally experienced this in shooting an H&K MP5. Even though its only 9mm, on full auto it will look up in the sky. Three round burst is the way to go. Just do it legal.

Personally, fully automatic is overrated, even the military has abandoned it in most service rifles.

Converting a firearm from semi-automatic to fully auto-matic depends where you live. It may be perfectly legal in other countries.

In the USA, you cannot legally manufacture your own fully-automatic firearm without a manufacturers FFL to make and posses such a firearm.

It is a felony to convert an otherwise legal semi-automatic firearm to be fully-automatic

The BATFE will (and does) investigate and prosecute those that
break this portion of the GCA law in particular.

Though denying you the right to posses a fully-automatic weapon is a blatant "infringement" of the second amendment, you should stay in the clear and not pursue a fully-automatic AR15.

If you have the money to do so and are legally allowed to own such a firearm, because contrary to popular belief, many states will allow you to own a fully-automatic firearm, you should go the legal route and talk to a transfer dealer that deals in fully- automatic, or select fire weapons.

You cannot find a fully automatic AR-15. You can buy drop in registered sears and class three fully automatic M-16 rifles that cost 20,000 dollars or more in many causes.

Buy a trigger actuator/activator, system, an electric or mechanical unit which attaches to the trigger and trigger guard and replicates automatic fire. Since the rifle still fires only once with each pull of the trigger it is legal. Unfortunately alot of them are of shoddy quality and laws have been (made?) introduced to regulate them. So you may still need a federal permit but they will still be alot cheaper than a true selective fire weapon.

To make it trully full auto or selective fire you need an ATF permit and a new trigger assembly or an entire new lower reciever. (the gun could benefit from other modifications, such as a heavier barrel and springs if you plan on shooting automatic fairly often)
Full auto is just a plain waste of ammunition, except on bi/trod mounted wepons or unless the only effect you are looking for is to make the target take cover. 2 and 3 round burst is far more efficient but even well trained operators have trouble with the later rounds being accurate.
Well aimed semi-automatic fire is far more lethal than just blasting away.

It will take a $200 tax stamp from the BATFE, a hell of a lot paperwork, extensive background checks, and about $10,000 to purchase the rifle. It is possible to convert an AR-15 into Full-auto, but it is extremely difficult and requires some good machinery and a lot of metal working and engineering skills. It's easier to just do it legally.

I talked to a class III owner of a full-auto M-16. He said he rarely shoots it because some busybody always hears it and calls the Feds. They then swarm the area looking for that machine gun and don't quit until they find it (him). I know that is true from hearing one being shot some distance out of town. Next day, the vicinity was thick with Feds. They want to know whose it is, that he has the license and if it is properly stored so it can't be stolen. The man said a class III permit is not worth the hassle you have to go through to get one. Think hard about converting a semi to full-auto. Is it worth your freedom and loss of ALL your guns?
The main part is the special sear in the trigger group..

A federal tax stamp and a Class II manufacturer, IF you are a federally licensed Class III dealer. Otherwise, you will end up in the Federal ***-Raping Prison System for modifying your AR.

Why would you want to do that, anyway? Full auto is a waste of ammo, and chances are you won't be able to hit diddly squat unless you're trained.

This stuff doesn't work in real life like it does in the movies, you know...

First of all don't ask on this site, go to a sun site, create an account & ask anyone on the Forum list.

Second, u can make ur rifle fullt auto, but it will cost u more, But most important you have to check the laws of ur state, because each state is different. Hope that was helpful even though u posted ur question a while back.

What year did you buy your rifle. If you bought it between 1992-1996 there is a secret technique for converting all Colt AR-15 rifles. Open your gun there will be a small block with the word Colt on it remove it and the gun is now fully auto. If not sorry.

You can't. They had to change the lower assembly components so it could not be made into a fully auto system.
There is a reason. Look at about all of the answers and you will see that it is dangerous, and stupid.
It takes special training to handle a FA.
