Sultanas belong to the grapevine family (Vitaceae) and are native to the Caspian Sea. sultanas and raisins, including those still on the bunch, are known collectively as "raisins. The difference between these 2 dried fruits is:
Sultanas: seedless, large-berried and light yellow. smaller than raisins.
Raisins on the bunch: seeded, large-berried, generally with a stalk.

The sultana originally are just rasins from a particular type of white grape, most people use the term to refer to yellow raisins. They are interchangeable in recipes

Sultanas are also seedless grapes (white)
Raisins are not seedless grapes
Hence a sultana is smooth when you bite it, but a raisin is slightly gritty.
